About similarities and differences of humour of different nations and difficulties of translating a joke – the Gorchakov Fund hosted a presentation of the book "FOUR COMEDIES translated by Mikhail Mishin" by writer, screenwriter, translator and satirical novelist Mikhail Mishin.

The book is a collection of modern comedies in English. Theatre productions based on the comedies from the book have become hits of the Russian stage numerous times.
During the meeting, Mikhail Mishin told about the beginning of his career as a translator; working with comedians, including Arkady and Konstantin Raikin; specifics of writing humorous performances and screenplays. The attendees of the event were able to ask questions to the guest. The discussion included national characteristics of humor and difficulties associated with translating comedies.
When answering a question about translator's presence in the texts, Mikhail Mishin said: "There are always 100 per cent of the author and 100 per cent of me in the text", emphasizing that it is necessary to understand the cultural code of other nations in order to convey the meaning to a Russian-speaking audience.In addition to the comedies, "Four comedies" includes interpreter's notes and comments by well-known Russian theatre professionals – Konstantin Raikin, Tatyana Dogileva, Alexander Shirvindt, and Anatoly Smelyansky. The book is available for purchase at the online bookstores. Funds from the sale of the book will be donated to charity.
