"China buys, but does not attract": Gevorg Mirzayan about new foundations of international relations

"For many years Moscow has been using the same appeals towards our western partners as cat Leopold in the famous cartoon. We are talking about the need to respect sovereignty, get involved together in development and comply with universal rules of the game. We sincerely hope that after the geopolitical ordeals caused by the United States and its policy, which came in disagreement with our proposal (Afghanistan), our voice will be heard and we will return to abiding by the rules of the game", Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Mass Communication of Financial University under the Government of Russia and member of the Gorchakov Club Gevorg Mirzayan described a Russian approach towards the current state of global affairs during the "Expert's Opinion" show.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed restoring the Russia-NATO format during negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at 76th UN Assembly. When speaking about prospects of a dialogue with the North Atlantic Alliance, the expert said that if NATO had good, constructive, neighbourly relations with Russian, then NATO would not exist:

"The whole idea of NATO is based on containing Russia. If there is not containment of Russia, why would NATO exist? Where is that common enemy, which makes Europe stay part of that organization and allow the Americans to control its foreign and defense policy? Relations between Russia and NATO will continue to be hostile, and I would not place hopes on those relations to be somehow restored".

The Gorchakov Fund also mentioned a topic of Chinese initiatives targeting global development and tried to understand what was behind them. Mirzayan characterized those proposals of the Celestial Empire as "amorphous".
"China, as a global empire, does not have a global ideology. China buys, but does not attract. It does not have a set of values, which can be presented to the world and, thus, strengthen its influence on it. China is not attractive, it cannot work with nations and minorities, which it controls, it cannot integrate."

During the meeting, the AUUKUS agreement among the U.S., the UK and Australia was mentioned. According to the expert,  Australia's joining that block makes the country part of direct military and political confrontation with China.

"The Chinese government is gaining power and has achieved such a level when it considered itself capable of introducing sanctions and training the white state and decided to practice on "Australian kitties", which has seriously disturbed the Australians and made them escape into that AUUKUS."
