Prospects of European cooperation will be discussed at the Potsdam Meetings

The Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund and the German-Russian Forum will host the anniversary XXV Potsdam Meetings in a hybrid format on May 18.

The topic of the Potsdam Meetings this year is “A Breakthrough Era – Prospects of European Cooperation between the Pandemic and the New Political Landscape”. During the forum, representatives of German and Russian governments, businesses, non-profit organizations and academia will discuss the status of Russian-German bilateral relations  after the pandemic and prospects of economic cooperation. The event will once again take place under the auspices of ministers of foreign affairs of Russia and Germany Sergey Lavrov and Heiko Maas.

The following experts from both countries have confirmed their participation in the event:

  • Pavel Zavalny, Chairman of the Energy Committee, State Duma, Federal Assembly of Russia;

  • Yevgeny Primakov, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo;

  • Anatoly Torkinov, Rector of MGIMO University, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences;

  • Mikhail Shvydkoy, Special Representative of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation;

  • Alexander Dynkin, President of Primakov IMEMO RAS, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences;

  • Oleg Tyapkin, Director of the Third European Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia;

  • Victor Loshak, journalist, Director of Strategy at Kommersant Publishing House;

  • Alexander Raar, political scientist, expert;

  • Matthias Platzeck, former Prime Minister, Chairman of the Management Board of the German-Russian Forum;

  • Jens Paulus, Associate Partner at Ernst & Young;

  • Andreas Nick, member of the German Bundestag (CDU/CSU);

  • Antje Vollmer, former Vice President of the German Bundestag;

  • Christian Schmidt, member of the German Bundestag (CDU/CSU);

  • Klaus Ernst, member of the German Bundestag (The Left);

  • Nils Schmid, member of the German Bundestag (SPD);

  • Jurgen Trittin, member of the German Bundestag, member of the Committee on Foreign Policy, former minister.

By tradition, participants of the Youth Forum of the Potsdam Meetings will take part in the event. They will present a document developed based on results of the forum held on March 24, 2021.
