A Russian-Georgian expert meeting is taking place at the Gorchakov Fund
On March 13, a Russian-Georgian expert meeting is taking place in Moscow.
Participants of the discussion were welcomed by Executive Director of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Leonid Drachevsky. He mentioned that the dialogue between intellectuals from both countries had been continuous and had been developing during the years of work of the Georgian-Russian Public Center in Tbilisi.
According to the head of the Gorchakov Fund, our neighbourship and long-term coexistence have taken powerful roots, which cannot be ignored. And the fact that the intellectuals from the two countries are able to find the common language will surely bring results and support strengthening of mutual understanding between our nations as well as overcoming hard feelings of the past.
In this sense, it is very important to talk to young people, who simply did not have time to accumulate collective memory.
During roundtable “Development of Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation in Russian-Georgian Relations”, Tamar Kiknadze, Professor of the Caucasus International University, emphasized that there was no Russophobia on the Georgian side. She especially thanked the Gorchakov Fund for providing the Georgians with an opportunity to keep ties with Russian people. Ms. Kiknadze also said that Georgia needed to build stronger political, cultural and economic ties with Russia.
In his turn, Alexander Rusetksy, Director of the Laboratory of Geopolitical Modelling, Founder of the Tbilisi Institute of International Relations, mentioned a need to study positive historiography and pay special attention to negative historical events in the relations between the two countries.
