A welcome message of Sergey Lavrov to participants of the Potsdam Meetings

23 June 2017

A welcome message of Foreign Minister of Russia and Chairman of the Management Board of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Sergey Lavrov addressed to organizers and guests of a session of the Potsdam Meetings Russian-German Forum:

We cordially welcome the organizers and guests of this milestone session of the Potsdam Meetings Russian-German Forum.

Over 20 years, the forum has gained a prominent place in Russian-German civil society contacts. It is consistently noted for its friendly atmosphere and broad range of participants, who include respected representatives of the political, business, expert, academic and artistic communities. The fact that the forum addresses the most pressing bilateral and international issues and provides a platform for discussing them in an open and informal manner helps to advance the positive Russian-German agenda and support trust and understanding between the two nations.

This session's theme is quite topical. The dialogue between Russia and the West is experiencing hard times. In this context, efforts must be made to get back on the track of progressive development, including in the interests of strengthening global and regional security and stability, as well as searching together for efficient solutions to numerous challenges of modern times.

We expect that the results of this round of the Potsdam Meetings forum will make a useful contribution into the work in this area and will help to develop new prospective projects and initiatives.

We wish you interesting discussions and all the very best.
