An international academic conference on relations of the Visegrad Group and the EU with Russia was held with the support of the Gorchakov Fund
An international academic conference “Relations among Countries of the Visegrad Group and between the EU and Russia” was held in Moscow. The discussion, dedicated to chairmanship of Slovakia in the EU, had been organized by a representative office of the Slovak Republic jointly with the Institute of Europe RAS with the support of the Gorchakov Fund and a Moscow office of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
The event, held at the Slovak Institute in Moscow, was opened by Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Moscow Peter Priputen. He evaluated prospects and challenges of relations between the Russian Federation and the EU. According to him, despite existing problems, Russia and the European Union remain neighbors and their cooperation is of strategic character. Director of the Third European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Nechayev, Head of the Political Section at EU Delegation to the Russian Federation Thomas Reyes-Ortega and Director of the Institute of Europe RAS Alexey Gromyko covered the same issues in their presentations.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Geza Jeszenszky, Head of Department of Analysis and Planning at the foreign office of the Slovak Republic Igor Greksai and Deputy Head of Department of Central and Eastern European Studies at the Institute of Europe RAS Lyubov Shishelina spoke to the participants.
About a hundred experts from Russia and countries of Central Europe, diplomats and scientists took part in the event.
