“Dialogue in the Name of the Future – 2016”. Day 1. Global security and stability
During the first working day of “Dialogue in the Name of the Future – 2016”, its participants held three discussion sessions.
A topic of the first session was different approaches to common challenges for Russia and the West. Deputy Director of the Center of Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Dmitry Suslov, whose presentation followed a Fedor Lukaynov’s speech at the opening ceremony of the program, tried forecasting the first steps of the new U.S. Administration. According to him, Trump’s coming to power will allow him, if not relaunching a meaningful dialogue between Russia and Brussels, at least intensifying it.
The expert believes that the Atlanticist EU is breaking apart, and that is why an incentive for diversification of partnerships and alliances, diversification of relations is emerging. And a meaningful dialogue with Russia on the issues of security on the continent will become one of priorities for the European Union.
