Discussion “The New U.S. President: Does Russia Have a Reason to be Optimistic”? Opinions and comments
On February 2, a meeting of the discussion platform “Tverskaya – XXI” dedicated to a topic “The New U.S. President: Does Russia Have a Reason to Be Optimistic?” took place at State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.
The Gorchakov Fund provided media support to the event.
Head of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, member of the Management Board of the Gorchakov Fund Konstantin Kosachev and anchor of TV show Forecasts on Zvezda (TV channel) Veronika Krasheninnikova met with participants of the discussion platform.
Vestnik of Caucasus shared information about the discussion:
“Under Donald Trump, Russia has a chance that relations with the U.S. will change for the better”. This statement was made today by Head of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev during his speech at the meeting of the discussion platform “Tverskaya – XXI” dedicated to a topic “The New U.S. President: Does Russia Have a Reason to Be Optimistic?”.
“A result of presidential elections in America in favor of Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, in reality, did not only mean just a victory of one or the other candidate, but would have demonstrated either restoration of logic of the cold war, a claim for one’s exclusiveness and supremacy or something else as nobody knows now what Mr. Trump implies exactly. Perhaps, he does not know himself yet. Before the elections, we could absolutely accurately envision what would happen if Clinton won, but we could not and cannot say anything about how the policy will change under Trump”, mentioned the senator.
According to an opinion ofVeronika Krasheninnikova, expressed at the discussion platform “Tverskaya – XXI”, Russia does not have many reasons to be optimistic with Trump in power in the U.S. Everybody, who voted for Trump, is by no means a fascist or a racist, but every American fascist and racist voted for Trump. He was able to bring together people, who are growing poor, who are afraid of losing their wealth, who fear losing their jobs, around that nucleus. When workers grow poor, when the middle class grows poor, then they become prey of populist leaders, who promise simple decisions for complicated problems, said Krasheninnikova.
The discussion platform “Tverskaya – XIX” – a joint project of Rospatriocenter and State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia – has been implemented since December of 2014. Well-known politicians, public figures, scientists and representatives of culture, students from capital’s universities, participants of All-Russian Educational Youth Forum “Territory of Senses" and “Tavrida” take part in the meetings held in the format of open discussions. http://www.gorchakovfund.ru/en/news/20130/
