Foreign students as public diplomats of Russia abroad. A roundtable with the participation of the Gorchakov Fund
On April 18, a roundtable “Public Democracy: Foreign Students as Public Diplomats of Russia Abroad” was held at the Urals State University of Economics (USEU). Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, foreign students studying in Russia, and representative of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Nikita Silakov took part in the traditional discussion preceding the VIII Eurasian Economic Forum.
According to press service of USEU, foreign students from the universities of Moscow, Kazan, Chelyabinsk, Astrakhan and Yekaterinburg came to participate in the roundtable.
“Members of the Association of Foreign Students called themselves not less than public diplomats as when returning to their countries, they will become “transmitters” of the Russian culture”, mentioned the course.
The discussion was opened by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Benin in Russia Aniset Gabriel Kochofa. He defined the goal of public diplomats in their countries as promotion of the Russian language and offered the students to unite the efforts in order to develop good neighborly relations not only during their studies in Russia, but also after coming back to their countries.
