Henry Kissinger took part in the opening of the Primakov Center

On February 4, well-known U.S. politician Henry Kissinger was a guest of the Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation. Russian politicians, foreign affairs professionals, representatives of the business and academic community participated in the meeting.

 

The guests were welcomed by one of the founders of the Center and Executive Director of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Leonid Drachevsky. According to him, participation of Dr. Kissinger in the opening ceremony set a high bar for the new organization in the very beginning as well as serious standards for its activities.

 

In his turn, Henry Kissinger noted that it was an honor for him to be present at the opening ceremony of the Primakov Center and stressed importance of commemorating his close friend and the outstanding politician.

 

There is no doubt that Primakov and Kissinger are people of different political views, who belonged to different camps. However, they are distinguished by a combination of deep knowledge, intellectual potential, enormous life experience, and understating of global processes. Those outstanding thinkers were characterized by an ability to foresee trends of the global politics.

 

In his speech, Henry Kissinger mentioned different aspects of Russian-U.S. relations, shared his vision on the events on the planet as a whole and in its different regions, touched upon the issue of providing security and confrontation to threats of international terrorism.

 

Dean of the Faculty of World Politics at Lomonosov Moscow State University Andrei Kokoshin, Scientific Director of RAS Institute of U.S. and Canadian Studies Sergey Rogov, Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of National Research University Higher School of Economics Sergey Karaganov, President of the Russian International Affairs Council Igor Ivanov, Academic Advisor of RAS Institute of Oriental Studies Vitaly Naumkin and well-known Russian entrepreneur Ruben Vardanyan spoke during the meeting at the Primakov Center.

 

We would like to note that the day before on February 3 President of Russia Vladimir Putin hosted Henry Kissinger in his residence in Novo-Ogarevo. As it was reported earlier by Press Secretary of the Russian head of state Dmitry Peskov, Putin and Kissinger had long history of relations and they communicated on a regular basis. According to Peskov, Putin values an opportunity of such a meeting in terms of discussing current issues of global affairs and exchanging opinions.

 

Henry Kissinger held a position of U.S. Secretary of State in the 1970s. He is one of the authors of the policy of detente in relations with the USSR. During the past decades, Kissinger has been one of the most influential experts in the issues of the U.S. foreign policy.

 

The Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation was established in 2015. The mission of the Center is in accumulation and development of intellectual heritage of Yevgeny Primakov and strengthening cooperation on expert and scientific levels as well as in involvement of civil society institutes into the foreign policy process.


Plans of the Primakov Center include organizing new meetings with outstanding representatives of world politics, science, well-known Russian and foreign politicians.
