Igor Gladyshkevich, a winner of the contest “Future Diplomat – 2016”, will become a participant of the IX Diplomatic Seminar

A final of the anniversary X Republican Contest among high school students “Future Diplomat – 2016” was held at the Junior Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). That tournament has been traditionally supported by the Gorchakov Fund.

 

Artem Ikneyev, an 11th grade student from one of the schools of the center of the Republic of Sakha, became an absolute winner. Igor Gladyshkevich, a 10th grade student from the town of Neryungri, was awarded a diploma of the 1st degree. He received a special prize, provided by the Gorchakov Fund, - a certificate for participation in research and educational program “IX Diplomatic Seminar of Young Experts”, which will be held in May.

 

“This event brings here smart and great kids from all over the republic, this platform is for self-expression, for people to demonstrate their abilities, communicate with peers on topics of common interests, practice communication skills and, of course, acquire great experience”, Igor Gladyshkevich said after receiving the award.

 

According to information provided to press service of the Gorchakov Fund by organizers of the contest “Future Diplomat”, the contest received status of one of the most prestigious events in Yakutia. It has been held since 2006 on the initiative of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian in Yakutsk and with administrative support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Federal Relations and External Affairs of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The contest, in which students from 9-11 grades of secondary schools and gymnasiums of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) take part, draws attention of the younger generation to diplomatic service and international relations while providing patriotic upbringing and career guidance to the high school students.

 

In 2015, the Gorchakov Fund became a co-organizer of the event.

 

This year, about 400 high school students from all the regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) became participants of all the stages of the contest. Based on the results of a municipal and zonal selection, 48 contestants became finalists. The participants competed in public speaking on international topics, in school format debates, and demonstrated knowledge of a foreign language during a republican stage of the contest.


Educational lectures on international topics, a psychological training on public speaking, evenings of friendship, communication games, “UN Model”, interactive session “Diplomacy in the Modern World”, and tour of the museum “Archive-Library of the First President of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) M.E. Nikolayev” were held within the framework of the contest. Head of the Center of Foreign Language Studies of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Lidiya Korzheva was a guest of honor in the final of the contest and made a lecture on the subject of the event.
