International Youth Event “We are the Future” was organized with the support of the Gorchakov Fund
On June 3-9, International Youth Event “We are the Future” – an educational workshop on youth diplomacy – took place in Moscow. Its participants included young people from Karelia, the Orenburg region, the Krasnodar region, the Arkhangelsk region, the Volgograd region, the Ulyanovsk region, the Moscow region, the Yaroslavl region, the Republic of Crimea, St. Petersburg, Algeria, Armenia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Belarus.
An official opening ceremony of the workshop took place on June 4 at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation. The guests were welcomed by International Cooperation Advisor to National Youth Council of Russia Lukyana Suvorova, Director of United Nations Information Center in Russia Vladimir Kuznetsov, President of International Foundation for Sustainable Development Victor Orlov, Advisor to Deputy Director of the Department of National Policy for Children’s and Youth Education of the Ministry of Education of Russia Ivan Tarakanov, Chairman of European Democratic Youth Union Javier Hurtado and others. After the opening ceremony panel discussions and lectures were held. Vladimir Kuznetsove made a presentation on “Global Processes and the United Nations Organization”. Deputy Director of the Department of Pan-European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Ilya Subbotin discussed cooperation of Russia with the European Union and the Council of Europe with the audience, and Professor of MGIMO Dr. Elena Ponomareva gave a lecture on “Soft Power as a Tool of Influence”.
The organizers had prepared an intensive program, which included theoretical and practical blocks. On June 6, a meeting of the participants of the workshop with Deputy Director of the Department for Liaisons with the Subjects of the Federation, the Parliament and Public Associations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Igor Mozgo took place. “Interparliamentary diplomacy adds to public diplomacy by assisting the leadership of the country to achieve major strategic goals”, he stressed. During the discussion at the foreign service agency the diplomat told about main areas of work of the department and priority goals of the ministry under conditions of the current international agenda. Igor Mozgo emphasized cooperation with a non-for-profit community and importance of supporting and developing relations with NGOs. He stressed that the dialogue with the civil society had been organized on the highest possible level and reminded about the annual meetings of the minister of foreign affairs with representatives of NGOs. The attendees of the workshop showed interest in the conversation. In their questions they mentioned such topics as authorities of the subjects of the Russian Federation in implementation of international cooperation, economic sanctions of the European Union, interaction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia with youth associations in the CIS space and many others. The day continued with a visit to international media agency Sputnik.
On June 7, Deputy Executive Director of the Gorchakov Fund Roman Grishenin and Chairman of National Youth Council of Russia Grigory Petshkov welcomed the participants at the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.
Roman Grishenin emphasized importance of the event and mentioned that it was held with the support of the Presidential Grants Foundation. “We are very pleased to host the guests. I believe that the days you spent here were interesting and intensive”.
Roman Grishenin told the participants about the history of the Gorchakov Fund and main areas of its activities, invited the attendees to visit the website of the organization and apply for participation in different projects.
