Leonid Slutsky: the need to work with young diplomats is more and more often brought up by the Gorchakov Fund

24 July 2017

The need to work with young politicians and diplomats from neighboring states and beyond is more and more often brought up by Rossotrudnichestvo and the Gorchakov Fund, said Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Assembly of Russia Leonid Slutsky.

The parliamentarian made that statement on July 21 when meeting with participants of the IV Forum of Young Diplomats in Moscow.

According to him, private sector initiatives played an important role as well.

“Beginning from 2014, the Council of Young Diplomats under MFA of Russia has been organizing forums with the participation of agemates from the CIS, SCO and BRICS member states and some EU member countries”, mentioned Leonid Slutsky.

He stressed that more and more countries of the world were placing a priority on policies of the new world order representing the so-called “Generation Y”.

Similar examples can already be observed in the post-Soviet space, added Head of the Foreign Committee of the State Duma.

As it was reported earlier, the IV Forum of Young Diplomats had been held in Moscow. Its attendees included representatives from Russia, Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and South Ossetia. They discussed issues related to information technologies and providing cybersecurity in the diplomatic work and exchanged experience in those fields. A final resolution in the form of a declaration was adopted based on the results of the forum.

The forum was held with the support of the Gorchakov Fund for the third time.
