On May 29, the annual International Scientific and Expert Forum “The Primakov Readings” will open in Moscow. On the eve of its opening researchers in the field of international relations from numerous regions of Russia and neighboring countries gathered together at a roundtable.

The youth session of the Primakov Readings had been organized by Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAS), the Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.

The participants were welcomed by Executive Director of the Primakov Center Roman Grishenin. According to him, the session of the Readings annually brings together the best representatives of the international political science community. At the event, they will discuss how the new world order will be changing.

Roman Grishenin believes that the forum will serve as a new impulse in the scientific career of the young researchers.

Director of IMEMO RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Fedor Voitolovsky also welcomed the attendees. He told how the Primakov Readings had been originally planned – as a counterpart to the largest world platform, a place for communication among the most respected scientists on the planet.

According to him, during such conferences a system of communication, where, among others, international relations are built, is formed.

Yevgeny Primakov possessed unique communication skills. He could establish contacts and maintain friendships. This quality is crucial in professional activities, mentioned Fedor Voitolovsky. He stressed significance of fundamental studies, which accumulate with years, and provide the highest level of analysis.

Director of IMEMO RAS believes that think tanks represent an important tool of participation in foreign affairs; their role is continuously increasing and they provide a variety of new ideas.

During the roundtable “Risks of the Unstable World Order: A Perspective of the Youth”, meetings with guest experts were held. Deputy Director of IMEMO RAS, Member of RAS Vasily Mikheev told about competition of formats in the Asia-Pacific Region and the Korean nuclear problem. Deputy Head of Economic Theory Unit at IMEMO RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS Sergey Afontsev made a report “A Ghost of Protectionism in the World Economy: Is It So Scary?”
