Sergey Markedonov: The process of country’s breakup in Belovezhskaya Pushcha was just started
A quarter of the century ago, the Soviet Union stopped its existence as a country and an international entity. 15 new countries appeared on the world map, which became members of the UN, and several other entities, which received limited acknowledgment or did not receive it at all. Each of the countries ran along a complicated path of nation building and international legitimacy. Associate Professor at the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy of the Russian State University for the Humanities Sergey analyzed stages of that long road for Sputnik.
