The Caspian School. Day 3. Ecology and social-humanitarian cooperation in the region

On September 17, the II Caspian Youth School completed it work in Astrakhan. The third day of the program was dedicated to ecological problems of the Caspian Sea and social-humanitarian cooperation in the region. Participants visited the Scientific and Experimental Center “Bios” of Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution “Caspian Fisheries Research Institute” (CaspNIRKh). Senior research fellow of the Laboratory of Water Problems and Toxicology CaspNIRKh, Vice President of the Astrakhan Division of the International Academy of Ecology and Environmental Sciences Damir Katunin stressed during the meeting that the Caspian Sea was unique in its type as it stretched in a meridian direction, which resulted in location of sea territories in different climate zones, existence of a variety of marine fauna and other unique characteristics.


The speaker told about measurements of the sea level performed during many years and consequences of that process as well as special aspects of fish harvesting in the Volga-Caspian region.


After the lecture, the attendees of the school had an opportunity to see an exhibitionary aquaria room, a shop for culturing sturgeons and other types of fish and a molecular-genetic center.

When drawing conclusions of the program, the participants made presentations, where they presented their countries from the point of view of political achievements, social and economic successes, science, sport, culture and integration projects.
