The Caucasus Dialogue – 2016: a perspective from Armenia

Head of the Department of Political Science at Russian-Armenian University Oganes Sarkisyan took part in the annual international research and educational project of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund “The Caucasus Dialogue”.  The event was held in Grozny on July 26-31 with support of the Ministry for Youth Affairs of the Chechen Republic. A main topic of the discussion was “The Caucasus and Global Turbulence”.


Young political scientists, journalists, scholars, students and post-graduates as well as representatives of federal and regional governmental agencies from Russia, Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and South Ossetia discussed issues of national security, economy and a social sphere, war on terrorism and other topics. Prominent scholars (Sergey Markedonov, Nikolay Silayev, Akhmet Yarlykapov, Konstantin Tasits, Alexey Gunya) participated as experts and speakers.


The head of the Department of Political Science at Russian-Armenian University was invited to attend the event as a speaker at the roundtable “The Karabakh Conflict in Regional Context”.


Representatives of governmental institutions of the Chechen Republic, in their turn, shared unique experience of Chechnya in transforming the territory of war into the territory of peace and also discussed a process of synthesis of national-confessional traditions and civil-national identity.
