The Gorchakov Fund is participating in the Primakov Readings

28 November 2016

An international conference “The Primakov Readings”, dedicated to outstanding Russian diplomat Yevgeny Primakov (1929-2015), was opened on November 28 at the International Trade Center in Moscow. Representatives of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, governmental agencies, leading Russian and foreign economists, political scientists and diplomats, prominent public figures from 22 countries of the world are participating in the forum, which will be held until November 30.

Aide to the President of the Russian Federation and member of the Board of Trustees of the Gorchakov Fund Yuri Ushakov spoke to the participants.

According to him, participants of the Primakov Readings will discuss relations between Russia and the U.S. and impact of the new team of the new U.S. President on them.

Pre-election squabbles in the U.S. have been “unexpectedly rough and cynical”, believes Yuri Ushakov.

He mentioned active efforts by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry aimed at stabilizing the situation in Syria.

Yuri Ushakov found it difficult to evaluate chances of achieving some kind of agreement with the U.S. on Syria before the end of mandate of the current administration of the President of the United States. “He (Kerry) is taking very active efforts (for that)”, added the aide to the president.

Yuri Ushakov believes that global security depends on a capability of countries to unite their efforts in fighting terrorism in the Middle East. He stressed that the future of the Middle East will affect “not only the countries of the region, but the whole world”.

The aide to the president mentioned that proposals, made by the participants of the forum regarding that issue, will be “undoubtedly wanted”.

Yuri Ushakov noted importance of cooperation of governmental agencies with experts on development of new approaches to resolve international problems, especially in the situation, when a dialogue between Russia and some other foreign partners had been decreased almost to zero.

“Wishing you from the bottom of my heart success in search for recommendations, which will give hope that... a constructive spirit will prevail in the world and peer-to-peer cooperation in terms of confrontating real threats and real challenges”, concluded the aide to the president.
