The Gorchakov Fund, RAS Institute of World History and MGIMO will gather prominent historians from 20 countries at the forum commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Yalta Conference

International Scientific Conference “The 70th Anniversary of the Yalta Conference of Heads of the State of Anti-Hitler Coalition” will open in Moscow on February 25.

 

The forum with the participation of well-known historians and political scientists from over 20 states including Russia, USA, France, Great Britain, Canada, Poland, China and Italy was organized by the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and MGIMO-U (the Moscow State Institute of International Relations-University) of the Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Partners of the conference are the Russian Historical Society and Italian Fund de Gasperi.

 

The conference will be opened by Sergey Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, who is also heading the Russian Historical Society. Among the honored guests are: Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov, Director of RAS Institute of World History Alexander Chubaryan, Permanent Secretary of the French Academy Helene Carrere d’Encausse, Head of the Federal Archival Agency Andrey Artizov and Director of Gosfilmofond Nikolay Borodachev.

 

Perspectives of academic schools from different countries on shaping of the Yalta-Potsdam peace and lessons learnt from the events of 1945 will be presented within the framework of plenary sessions. Discussions of a role of personality in the post-war life of Europe and assessment of magnitude of those agreements under conditions of current challenges are expected to be held. Participants of the forum will be able to watch unique film footage shot in February of 1945 and kept in the archives of Gosfilmofond.

 

International Scientific Conference “The 70th Anniversary of the Yalta Conference of Heads of the State of Anti-Hitler Coalition” will complete its work on February 26.
