The Gorchakov Fund took part in Caspian Youth Summit
Caspian Youth Summit took place in the Islamic Republic of Iran (in the city of Chalus, Mazandaran Province) on May 27-31. Delegations from Russia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, which included representatives of governmental, youth and non-profit organizations, participated in the event at the invitation of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
A representative of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund participated in the event as part of the Russian delegation.
Presentations of NGOs and governmental programs on youth outreach in the states the Caspian region were made within the framework of the summit. Representatives of the delegations also exchanged best practices.
Opportunities for development of cooperation through programs of youth exchange, joint humanitarian evens and prospects for regional cooperation between Mazandaran Province and the Astrakhan Region, which is perceived as a gateway to Russia, were discussed.
Currently, only the Republic of Azerbaijan has a bilateral agreement on youth cooperation with ISI. Authorized representatives of Iran expressed readiness to sign such agreements with the other states of the region.
In 2015, a youth program was implemented at the initiative of the Iran’s president, based on which Caspian Youth Summit was held. The first forum in such format took place in September of 2014 in Astrakhan on the sidelines of the 4th summit of the heads of Caspian region states.
