The Gorchakov Fund took part in the Russian-Chinese forum dedicated to cooperation on the Silk Road

Russian-Chinese forum “Moscow – Beijing: Trade, Economic and Cultural Cooperation on the Silk Road” took place in Moscow on September 18.

Representatives of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund attended the event, which was held at the International Multimedia Press Center MIA “Russia Today”.

The participants were welcomed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Russian Federation Li Hui.

He reminded that China had been the biggest trade partner of Russia for already seven years.

According to the diplomat, the bilateral trade in January-July exceeded $46 bn, having increased by 25% compared to the first seven months of 2016.

Mr. Li Hui mentioned cooperation between Moscow and Beijing in the energy field, shared plans of co-production of airplanes and helicopters, expressed confidence that such a beneficial partnership will only strengthen in the future,

Member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, Chairman of Russia-China Friendship Association Dmitry Mezentsev talked about regional cooperation of the two countries and stressed that Republic of Crimea was also participating in that process. According to the senator, absolutely all regions of PRC today have friendly connections with territorial entities of the Russia Federation.

The opinion of Dmitry Mezentsev about importance of people’s diplomacy in relations between Moscow and Beijing was supported by Vice President of China Public Diplomacy Association, former Assistant to the Minister of the Foreign Affairs of China Hu Zhengyue. He believes that success of integration processes is only possible when it is understood by people of both countries and accepted by them.

Top experts from Russia and China discussed a strategy of bilateral relations in the initiative One Belt One Road, including issues of economic cooperation, development of cultural and sports connections as well as cooperation between media of both countries in the era of zenith of new media.

The forum had been organized by Media Agency and Radio Sputnik founded by MIA Russia Today and Chinese newspaper Global Times Online.
