05 April 2019

On April 8-9, the IV Youth Forum of the Potsdam Meetings will take place in Moscow. The event will be organized by the German-Russian Forum and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.

The topic of the conference is “Development of Digital Cities in Russia and Germany – a New Way to Cooperation”.

The forum will be opened by Executive Director of the German-Russian Forum Martin Hoffmann, Director of the Third European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Oleg Tyapkin, and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Russia Ruediger von Fritsch.

Attendees of the conference will include young politicians, governmental officials, lawyers, economists, journalists, scientists, researchers, teachers and public figures from Russia and Germany. Participants of the Russian and German delegations will be selected based on results of the competition.

The forum will start with a panel discussion “Digital (Smart) Cities: Experience of Russia and Germany”. Top experts in digital development, municipal services and mass communications from both countries will present to the audience.

The forum will consist of two discussion blocks. On the first day of the event, the participants will discuss how modern urban technologies influence the foreign policy, learn about experience of Germany and evaluate prospects of the regional and municipal policy of Russia in that area.

On April 9, a visit of the Internet Initiatives Development Fund will be organized. After that, the participants will visit the International Trade Center. There, during the second discussion block of the forum, they will discuss the role of society in development of a municipal policy. The attendees will present their projects in the area of urban development.

An intensive sightseeing program has been planned for the attendees of the conference. They will take a walk around secret places of old Moscow and visit the Tretyakov Gallery.

The Youth Forum of the Potsdam Meetings was held for the first time in May of 2017, and today it has become one of well-established international platforms for a dialogue of the civil society. Summary documents of such conferences are included into the agenda of the major Potsdam Meetings, and those documents provide a serious topic for a discussion at the meetings between Russian and German parliamentarians.

Importance of the dialogue between Moscow and Berlin has been emphasized on the highest level. We would like to remind that the II Youth Forum of the Potsdam Meetings in October of 2017 was announced by President of Russia Vladimir Putin during a joint conference with his German colleague Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
