The president of Moldova highly praised an international forum “Youth in the Eurasian Union Space” supported by the Gorchakov Fund
A meeting of President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon with students of MGIMO (U) under MFA of Russia was held in Moscow within the framework of his visit to the Russian Federation.
The attendees were welcomed by Rector of MGIMO and head of the Academic Board of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Anatoly Torkunov.
When speaking to the audience, Igor Dodon stated that during the past nine year presidents of Moldova had not visited Moscow.
“A new stage of bilateral relations with Russian is beginning”, said the Moldovan leader.
He took part in the presentation of a book on the history of Moldova and answered questions from the participants.
Student of MGIMO Alexey Pozdnyakov reminded that in the beginning of December of 2016 an international forum “Youth in the Eurasian Union Space”, supported by the Gorchakov Fund, had been held in Kishinev. That conference had been opened by Igor Dodon. Alexey Pozdnyakov asked the Moldovan president to provide an assessment of the youth forum and asked if further support of similar Russian-Moldovan youth initiatives was planned.
Igor Dodon highly praised that conference. “We will continue supporting out cooperation”, he promised.
“I know that this year in Sochi a very big youth event will take place, and our delegation will be part of it”, informed the president.
When speaking about importance of cooperation within the Eurasian Union space, he mentioned that the day before he had had a meeting with leadership of the Eurasian Economic Commission. “We have already submitted a proposal to sign a framework memorandum on the agreement with EurAsEC. It does not contradict the EU Association Agreement. Besides, we have suggested becoming observers in EurAsEC”, said Igor Dodon.
On January 16-18, the president of Moldova paid his first official visit as a head of state to Moscow. A meeting between Igor Dodon and Vladimir Putin was held within the framework of the visit.
