The Primakov Center for International Cooperation and the Center of Oriental Studies invite you to participate in the 3rd International Competition of Students’ Scientific and Analytical Papers on the Middle East
The Primakov Center for International Cooperation and the Center of Oriental Studies, International Relations and Public Diplomacy along with the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund in collaboration with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Science and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs invite you to submit paper proposals for the Third International Competition of Students’ Scientific and Analytical Papers on the Middle East named after Y.M. Primakov.
The goal of the competition is to bring together the most talented and promising researchers specialized in the Middle East and encourage them to take part in an international conference and meetings with experts in Oriental Studies.
Requirements for participation: undergraduate and graduate students, ages 18-30, who do not hold a PhD degree.
The participants are free to choose their own topic of interest.

General guidelines: language of the paper – Russian or English; size – 5 to 8 pages; font style – Times New Roman, font size – 14; line spacing – single, paragraph spacing – 0 pts, alignment – justified; the author’s initials, last name and the title of the paper – in bold, centered; page-by-page footnotes; the last page of the paper must include a reference list. Please note that the official language of the conference and the advisory workshops is Russian.
The papers presented for the competition will be reviewed by an expert panel, which will select 15 winners based on results of the voting by secret ballot. Each of them will receive a special certificate and an opportunity to attend series of advisory workshops on the Middle East. Expenses associated with participation in the conference and the workshops, including travel and accommodation costs, will be covered. Out of the 15 winners 5 prize winners will be selected. They will receive certificates for cash awards. The 1st prize winner will receive a memorable gift and a certificate for 30 000 rubles; the 2nd prize winner – a certificate for 20 000 rubles; the 3rd prize winner – a certificate for 10 000 rubles; the 4th and the 5th prize winners – a certificate for 5 000 rubles each.
All participants will have an opportunity to present results of their research at the conference and discuss them with the experts.
The deadline for paper submissions – February 20, 2019. The results will be announced by March 4, 2019.
Attending the conference without participation in the competition is also possible.
In case the submitted paper does not comply with the general guidelines, the Organizing Committee has a right to reject the application. If the application is approved, the participant will be notified about the status of the submission within a week.
In order to participate in the competition and/or the conference, the applicants should send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following subject line “Application for Competition: First and Last Name”, attach the article in Word format and the application form (the files should be named accordingly “Surname. Article”, “Surname. Application Form”).
In order to attend the conference as an individual or a mass media representative, please submit an application form, including your full name, place of work and nationality, to the email address mentioned above by March 1, 2019.
The series of the advisory workshops and the conference will take place on March 29-30, 2019.
Following the results of the competition and the conference, it is planned to publish a collection of papers, which will be included into the Russian Science Citation Index.
