The Primakov International Contest of Academic Research Papers by Students on the Issues of the Middle East. Call for applications!
The Primakov Center for Foreign Policy Cooperation and the Center for Oriental Studies, International Relations and Public Diplomacy with the support of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs invite Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students to participate in the Primakov International Contest of Academic Research Papers by Students on the Issues of the Middle East.
The goal of the contest is to identify the most talented and promising young experts in Middle Eastern studies from all over the world and invite them to participate in the international conference and meetings with experts-orientalists. Applicants will select their own topics for the papers to be submitted to the contest. Paper requirements:
- academic style;
- analytical approach;
- systematic analysis;
- topics of modern politics associated with one or several countries of the Middle East.
Formal requirements: language of the paper – Russian or English, size – 5-8 pages, shrift type – Times New Roman, shrift size – 14, line spacing – single without space between paragraphs, alignment – justify, last name and first name initials of the author – in the center using semi-bold shrift, page-by-page references and bibliography.
The papers, submitted to the contest, will be evaluated by an expert panel. Based on results of a closed ballot, 15 winners will be selected; each of them will receive an official letter of participation, their travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for the purpose of attending the conference and the series of consultative expert seminars on the topic of the Middle East. Out 15 winners 5 prizewinners will be selected, who will receive certificates for cash awards. A participant with the 1st prize will get a memorable gift and a certificate for 30 000 rubles; a participant with the 2nd prize – a certificate for 20 000 rubles; a participant with the 3rd prize – a certificate for 10 000 rubles; participants with the 4th and 5th prizes – certificates for 5 000 rubles.
All the participants of the contest will receive an opportunity to speak at the conference, present results of their research and discuss them with the experts.
Presenting at the conference without participation in the contest is also possible.
Deadline for submitting applications is February 18, 2017. Results will be announced by March 5, 2017.
On order to participate in the contest and/or conference the applicants should send a letter with a subject “Application for the contest: first name and last name” at and attach the paper and the application in Word format to the letter (the files should be named accordingly “Last name. Article” and “Last name: Application”).
If the application is not filed in accordance with the formal requirements, the Organizing Committee will decline it, and if it is approved, the applicant will be notified within a week.
On order to attend the conference, individuals and media need to send an application, including a name of the participant, place of work and citizenship, to the email address mentioned above by March 1, 2017.
The series of consultative seminars and the conference will be held on April 14-15, 2017.
Based on results of the contest and the conference, a composite book of papers will be published.
