The X Scientific Conference and Workshop “Russia and China: History and Prospects of Cooperation” has ended
On June 2-4, 2020 the X International Scientific Conference and Workshop “Russia and China: History and Prospects of Cooperation” was taking place. The main organizers of the conference are Blagoveshchensk State Pedagogical University and Heihe University (China).
The conference was organized with the support of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, Center for Preservation of Historical-Cultural Heritage of the Amur region, the Institute of People’s Diplomacy of the Asia-Pacific Region and the Amur branch of the Russian Historical Society.
This year, in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection, the plenary meeting of the conference and the sessions were held online via Zoom Cloud Meetings. The conference has become the first online event of such a large scale organized in the Amur region.
On June 2, Deputy Executive Director of the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund Roman Grishenin welcomed participants of the event. After his speech, the following speakers made presentations to the audience: First Deputy Minister for Economic Development and External Affairs of the Amur region Yekaterina Kireyeva, Director of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies RAS Aleksey Maslov, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Complex European and International Studies at HSE Vasily Kashin, Head of the Department of History of Far East Countries at St. Petersburg State University Vladimir Kolotov, Senior Research Fellow at the Russia-China Center of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies RAS Vladimir Petrovsky and others.
On June 3, a roundtable with scientists from Heihe University was organized. The event was opened by native of Heihe, Vice President of the Institute for International and Strategic Studies under Peking University Professor Guan Guihai. After lunch, session “Current Problems of Philology and International Communication” took place. During the event, much attention was given to the work of Amur authors and understanding of mutual influence between the Russian and Chinese languages. Other sessions that day were dedicated to the history of Russian-Chinese relations and the current status of the system of international relations.
The three-day marathon on Zoom ended on June 4. Session “Socioeconomic Development and Cooperation between Russia and China” was the largest one by the number of speakers.
The conference brought together over a hundred scientists, post-graduates, Bachelor’s and Master’s students from different cities in Russia and abroad. The participants mentioned a unique three-day format of the conference and a diversity of discussion topics as well as the atmosphere of democracy at the event where young students, who had only begun their academic studies, were able to communicate with top Russian and foreign experts on equal terms.
The International Conference and Workshop “Russia and China: History and Prospects for Cooperation” has been organized since 2011. During that time, it has turned into one of the most important scientific events, during which Russian and Chinese researchers – representatives of the academia from Russia and China – have an opportunity to exchange views on major problems of development and cooperation between the two countries.
