On April 6, the Primakov Georgian-Russian Public Center and the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund organized a meeting of students and teachers of Caucasus International University and Tbilisi International Academy with Chairman of the Management Board of the Black Sea Winemaking Forum and member of the Gorchakov Fund’s Club of Friends Vitaly Merkushev.

The expert made a presentation “Economic Diplomacy of the Black Sea Region”. He told in detail about importance of the public diplomacy and its role in the economic component of state-to-state relations. Special attention was given to problems of export of Georgian wines to the Russian Federation, relaxation of visa requirements by Russia for Georgian citizens and issues of tourism. According to the expert, a current simplified visa regime provides an opportunity for producers of Georgian wines and tour operators to actively advertise their own products and deliver them onto the Russian market.

After the meeting with the students, Vitaly Merkushev toured a unique research and training platform of the Faculty of Winemaking at Caucasus International University, and visited a wine cellar with ancient Georgian wine vessels (kvevri), a wine pressing facility and a wine room. Deputy Chancellor of Caucasus International University Ms. Ketevan Dzhurkhadze told in detail about specifics of activities of the faculty and the research and training center, and shared plans of the university.
