Young diplomats from the CIS countries will come to Chelyabinsk to participate in the III International Diplomatic Games
On February 8, the III International Diplomatic Games for high school and college/university students from the CIS countries will take place in Chelyabinsk.
This unique project was launched in 2016 as a social movement of future diplomats with the goal of promoting public diplomacy and was tested on a regional level (in the Chelyabinsk region). The International Diplomatic Games are organized by the Faculty of Eurasia and East of Chelyabinsk State University and the Graduate Association of CSU.
Partners of the Games are the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund, the Government of the Chelyabinsk Region, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Culture and the Civic Chamber of the Chelyabinsk region.
The goal of the Games, according to the organizers, is to draw attention of the high school and college students to the issues of international relations and the field of public diplomacy. The participants of the Games will be able to expand and deepen their knowledge about modern foreign affairs, learn opinions and positions of representatives from different countries about prospects for the EEU and BRICS development, which will also contribute to their career guidance.
The topic of the Games in 2019 in nomination “High School Students” is “The EEU: Problems and Prospects” while the topic for college and university students is “The BRICS Countries and the Modern Policy of Sanctions”.
This year, 46 teams from 5 CIS countries were competing: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia (35 Russian and 11 foreign teams). Also, the Russian teams were widely represented by Russian regions – the Organizing Committee had received applications from 21 regions of the country.
In order to participate in the contest, the teams made short videos dedicated to the future of the EEU (the “High School Students” nomination ) or characteristics of the modern policy of sanctions of the BRICS countries (the “University and College Students” nomination). The selection stage was taking place from September 15 to November 30, which allowed the teams to prepare very different contest entries: they included both serious analysis of international problems and their own assessments of ongoing processes. Th contestants were also able to suggest their own projects and make forecasts.
As a result of the additional stage of the contest, five winners and three teams were shortlisted in each nomination. Team from Kaliningrad “Young Diplomats” became a winner in the “High School Students” nomination along with 3 teams from Kazakhstan, 1 team from Kyrgyzstan and 3 teams from Russia (Labytnangi, Perm and Chelyabinsk). In the “College and University Students” nomination, 6 Russian and 1 Azerbaijani team were shortlisted along with the winners of the selection stage from Mari State University (Yoshkar-Ola).
The final stage of the III International Diplomatic Games will take place on February 8, 2019 in a conference hall of the Drama Building of CSU (129 Bratyev Kashirinykh St.). The beginning is at 10:00 am for the “College and University Students” nominations and at 3:00 pm for the ““High School Students” nomination.
