Andrei A. Kokoshin
Russian politician, scientist-political analyst, active member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Deputy of the State Duma of the 3rd, 4th and 5th convocations.
Graduated from Bauman Moscow State Technical University, completed graduate studies at the Institute for the USA and Canadian Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, member-correspondent of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1987). 1973 – worked at the Institute for the USA and Canadian Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences, headed Department of Military and Political Research. 1984 – Deputy Director of the Institute for the USA and Canadian Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Served as one of the experts when preparing agreements on disarmament between the USA and the USSR, a leader of the group of experts on military and political matters and issues of conversion.
1992-1997 – First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, state military inspector-Secretary of Defense Council of the Russian Federation. 1998 – Secretary of Defense Council of the Russian Federation, member of the National Commission to Support Conversion, Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission on Defense and Security, member of the Security Council, member of the Government Commission of the Russian Federation on Operational Matters (1997-1998). 1998 – Director of the Center on National Security Problems of Russia of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chief Research Fellow at the RAS Institute of Europe. 1998 – Acting Vice President, RAS. 1999 – Director-organizer, Director of the RAS Institute of World Security Problems.
Author of numerous monographs and scientific papers on the matters of military policy, conversion and disarmament; member of the Russian Academy of Social Sciences, Honorary Chairman of the Rugby Players Union of Russia and the CIS.
